  • Elementary School Associate Teacher

    Newtown Friends School is seeking a caring, collaborative, and enthusiastic Pre-K Associate Teacher to join our vibrant early childhood team. The ideal candidate will support the Lead Teacher in creating a warm, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that fosters the social, emotional, and academic growth of our youngest learners.

    The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher to facilitate daily classroom routines and help manage the classroom. This includes assisting with whole group and small group activities, preparing classroom materials, and supporting students during indoor and outdoor play, snack, and rest times. Additionally, this role requires thoughtful communication with children, colleagues, and families, as well as participation in faculty meetings and professional development.

    Candidates should have experience working with young children in a school or childcare setting and a strong understanding of child development. A warm, patient, and joyful approach to teaching is essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team. 

    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree.  Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals.  Familiarity with Quaker education is a plus.

  • Pre-K Elementary School Teacher

    The Lower School is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator for a full-time Pre-Kindergarten teaching position. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience and a strong background in early childhood education.
     
    We are looking for someone who brings a solid understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for four-year-old learners and a passion for building foundational Reading, Writing, and Math skills. Experience with Handwriting Without Tears and Fundations is preferred.  Ideal candidates will bring unique and creative ideas to classroom centers and the overall learning environment, fostering joy, curiosity, and engagement in our youngest students. Familiarity with the Responsive Classroom approach is a plus. While experience with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) is not required, it is highly desirable. We value educators who are enthusiastic learners themselves—open to ongoing professional development and eager to grow within a collaborative school community.
     
    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  An advanced degree is strongly desired.  The successful candidate will have excellent rapport with young children and enjoy working with them in a variety of school activities in addition to classroom teaching.  We seek candidates with a deep knowledge of early childhood development and who have experience in providing students active, hands-on experiences.  Candidates should have an openness to collaborating with grade-partners and working with an associate. They should have an interest in supporting students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership.  Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals.  Familiarity with Quaker education is a plus.

  • School Bus Driver

    The School Bus Driver is a part time position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations. The person is responsible for transporting students on day and occasional overnight field trips.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Using the NFS school bus to transport students and teachers to day field trips, away athletic contests, and overnight field trips during the school year
    • Planning necessary route(s) to complete these bus trips
    • Assist the trip chaperones or coaches to maintain order of the students while on the trip.
    • Conduct basic safety and operational inspection of vehicle before each trip
    • Report needed mechanical repairs when necessary
    • Performs periodical safety drills as required by law
    • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
    • Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required
    • Attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children
    • Wash bus as needed
    • Fill the diesel fuel tank as needed to ensure trips can be executed without concern about running out of fuel
    Qualifications
    • Possession of a valid and appropriate Pennsylvania Driver's License
    • Possession of a Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate
    • Possession of a safe driving record
    • Current CDL Class B or higher license with the “S” and “P” endorsements. At least three years school bus driving experience is required.
    • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service orientation; ability to interact well with a wide variety of people, including staff, students, and school parents
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Must be able to work as a part of a small team
    Work Requirements
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check and driving record audit
    • Availability to work some weekends and evenings
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Substitute Teachers

    Newtown Friends School is looking for educators or professionals who have experience working in a school to serve as substitute teachers on a per diem basis, as needed.
