  • PreK-8 General Music Teacher

    Newtown Friends School is seeking dynamic candidates for a full time PreK - 8 general music teacher.  Applicants should have at least three years of relevant teaching experience.  This position plays a pivotal role in introducing students to the joys of music and cultivating their musical abilities. You will design and deliver engaging music lessons that align with our IB Primary Years curriculum and encourage creativity and self-expression. Creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere where students can explore various aspects of music, develop their skills, and appreciate different genres, multicultural perspectives, and appreciate musical traditions from diverse communities is central to your responsibilities.  The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and producing individual or dual grade performances for grades K-6, and being involved in musical or theatrical productions in grades 7 and 8.
     
    Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Music education.  An advanced degree is strongly desired.  The successful candidate will be piano and vocal proficient and have excellent rapport with and knowledge of varying age groups.  We seek candidates with a deep knowledge of early childhood development and who have experience in providing students active, hands-on experiences.  They should have an interest in supporting students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership.  Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals.  Familiarity with Quaker education and the ability to coach is a plus.

  • Lower and Middle School Innovation Teacher

    Newtown Friends School seeks a creative, forward-thinking educator to lead our newly designed Innovation Space. This teacher will build and lead an engaging, hands-on program in coding, robotics, engineering, design thinking, and STEAM for students in Grades PreK–8.

    The Innovation Teacher will design curriculum from the ground up, creating developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience. Students will explore programming (e.g., Scratch, Python), robotics platforms (LEGO, VEX), circuits and electronics, 3D design and printing, digital storytelling, media production, and applied engineering challenges. In addition, students will engage with emerging technologies, including age-appropriate exploration of artificial intelligence and digital citizenship. The goal is not simply technical fluency, but thoughtful engagement — helping students understand how to use technology ethically, responsibly, and creatively.

    As we enter our final year of candidacy for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), this role will collaborate closely with classroom teachers to integrate innovation into Units of Inquiry, support transdisciplinary learning, and help students apply conceptual understanding through inquiry, action, and real-world problem-solving.

    In addition, the Innovation Teacher will lead math enrichment groups in Grades 3–5, providing rich problem-solving experiences and conceptual extensions aligned with our Math in Focus program. Prior experience with Singapore Math is not required; however, strong mathematical reasoning skills and a willingness to learn the program are essential.

Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals. Familiarity with Responsive Classroom and Quaker education is advantageous.

  • School Bus Driver

    The School Bus Driver is a part time position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations. The person is responsible for transporting students on day and occasional overnight field trips.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Using the NFS school bus to transport students and teachers to day field trips, away athletic contests, and overnight field trips during the school year
    • Planning necessary route(s) to complete these bus trips
    • Assist the trip chaperones or coaches to maintain order of the students while on the trip.
    • Conduct basic safety and operational inspection of vehicle before each trip
    • Report needed mechanical repairs when necessary
    • Performs periodical safety drills as required by law
    • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition
    • Attend meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required
    • Attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children
    • Wash bus as needed
    • Fill the diesel fuel tank as needed to ensure trips can be executed without concern about running out of fuel
    Qualifications
    • Possession of a valid and appropriate Pennsylvania Driver's License
    • Possession of a Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Certificate
    • Possession of a safe driving record
    • Current CDL Class B or higher license with the “S” and “P” endorsements. At least three years school bus driving experience is required.
    • Strong, positive interpersonal and customer service orientation; ability to interact well with a wide variety of people, including staff, students, and school parents
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Must be able to work as a part of a small team
    Work Requirements
    • Successful completion of a criminal background check and driving record audit
    • Availability to work some weekends and evenings
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
